Prof Eric Chan

About this Speaker

Professor Eric Chan is the currently Dean of the School of Health Sciences at the Caritas Institute of Higher Education in Hong Kong. He was the Principal Nursing Officer of the Hospital Authority (HA) from May 1993 till May 2014.   He led the development of manpower planning, computerised rostering and patient care planning systems and a clinical nursing career structure in HA.  Before working in Hong Kong in 1993, he worked in hospitals, state and national health departments in Australia for 15 years in various capacities. He was responsible nationally for workforce planning and the transfer of basic nurse education to the tertiary education sector.  At the international level, Professor Chan has been a regular consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO). He was invited to act as the Chief Scientist for Nursing and Midwifery at WHO in Geneva between June and December 2010. He was Vice-Chair of the Global Advisory Group on Nursing and Midwifery (GAGNM) of WHO.
