About this Speaker
Patrick is Chief Development Officer at the UK’s National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA )and Professor of Practice, Innovation Environments at Newcastle University where he leads on NICAs development activity. Currently he is leading a large UK-China collaboration programme centred on healthy ageing innovation and most recently was the lead for the conceptualisation and design of NICAs multi award winning innovation centre, The Catalyst.
He acted as an Advisor to the UK Government on the Industrial Strategy (Ageing) between 2017-2021. Patrick is also a member of the International Advisory Board of Arise (Ageing Research Institute for Society and Education) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
He has worked widely across the applied research and innovation arenas for over 35 years in organisations ranging from small technology start-ups to internationally recognised translational research laboratories. His expertise covers the construction and operation of innovation environments – physical and virtual; practical innovation and international working.
Patrick is Chair of the UK Science Park Association, representing 130 centres of innovation across the UK and housing over 6,000 high tech companies employing 120,000 entrepreneurs and scientists. He is also a Board Member of the Association for Innovation, Research & Technology Organisations (Airto), the foremost membership body for organisations operating in the UK’s innovation, research and technology sector.
